Advertisements is so annoying?

When printing technology was introduced in 15th and 16th century. Advertisements was mainly for commercial messages and election campaign. In 17th century, advertisements are commonly show in newsapapers. In 19th century, as the enconomy is being developed the demand of advertisements has increased tremendously. More people were willing to invest on advertisements. In 20th century, more agencies are opened for advertisements businessness. Within centuries, advertisement has became very popular and important.

Here is the my opinions:

Advertisments did not appear after printing. People used to write and draw notices. Then passes it to others or post onto the wall(or some sort of surface) in order to send messages to multiple people. One of the reasons that advertisements has become so popuplar is because of printing. Printing is much more efficient. It saved time and labor cost. From that, of course companies would want to save time and money and still have the same effects of the outcome. By hypnotising people progessively, through repeatitions of images, media and peer pressure. An advertisements has achieved its purpose- selling its own product. It does not matter whether the product sell well in the market or not. It is the matter of seeing and knowing the product. Because we as consumers are the best way of advertising.

So why not annoy us more since it still have the effects?

Why is that IM business so successful due to their strategies or is it because of we love to communicate?

Over centuries, human have developed all sort of ways of languages in order to communicate. WIthout communication we can't understand each other. Communication has the power to break through the wall (that we built progressivly to protect ourselves) between peoples'. It is the only way to understand and to get closer to someone.

I have never used ichat before. Personally, I think the ichat AV looks a lot better than msn video conference. The design of ichat AV is just like the video conference in news and TV. By setting it at an angle. It engaged the relationship of the conversation and made it looked more futuristic. It has also emphazied the characteristic of technology. Compare to msn, it is located flat on the top right corner of the chat window. I often lose interest with the other user. That I would rather chat online only.

Comparison between MSN and ICQ interface

An interface of a software act an important part of the program. It represents the company. It affect the chances of winning the competition. According to my survey one of the reason that people change to MSN and like MSN better is because of the interface and it is more user friendly.

Personally, I started using ICQ back in when I was grade 7. I started using it is because my sister uses it. I remeber one if the most atrractive feature apart from chatting is when we need to use the menu to sign out and change user. When you roll over the button ICQ, the letter "Q" acutally turns to a cat. As you roll of it changes back to "Q". It create a sort of excitment. That was the best impression I have to ICQ. However, they don't have this features now.

Nowadays, I still open ICQ once in a while because my friends are still using it constantly and I don't want to lose the contacts. I still update ICQ occansionally. The lastest ICQ version I am using is ICQ 5.

however you can easily modify the size of the window (i.e. if you have more user you can pull it longer)

common features (ie. send file, multi chat room and send URL) are also located on the left of the chat window

I started using MSN around 2003 because my friends in Australia uses it. Basiclly, MSN is exactly the same as ICQ. One features that I really like about MSN compare to ICQ is when you send your message, you only need to hit enter. Where in ICQ you need to hit alt+s or tab+enter. I find it quite annoying. Later in the year, most of the time I chat to my friends in Australia through MSN. Graudually, MSN become the main instant message software I use most.

We gradually develop personalities and hobbies through out our life.We demand personalities to show that we are unique. The word "I" is very important to us. It represents me, not he/she/it/you or them. Hobbies may insist us to be successful in our career. Career and hobbies both develop each other. It balances the society, especially the enconomy. New career may develop through our interest. One of the marketing strategy is to target on our interest in order to sell their products.

EMOTIONS
We are a very emotional animal. Our feeling changes according to our hormones. It sends message to our brain. Then our brain will inform us about our feeling. Immediately, we express our feeling through our eyes and face. Constantly,we want share it with other people. Often the market focus on human emotions in their advertisements to capture our attention and convince us to use their products.

CHAT BUSINESS
As mentioned before, one of most successful marketing strategy is to target our hobbies and emotions. Nowadays, advertisements are always around us. They are trying to incorporate advertisements with anything we see, touch, smell and hear. Without advertising the product may not be as successful. The statements suggested in the advertisements are not always true. It could hypnotise us by when we watch it over and over again. It influences our decisions. On the street we see it on walls, billboards, stations and transports. At home we see it on TV's, magazines and the internet. We receive hand out from shops on the streets, junk mail to our home and e-mails and also as pop-ups in the internet. How can we avoid them? Millionaire invest billions of dollars to advertise themselves and their products. Companies need advertisements to maintain and make profits for their business. This is the same strategy that chat businesses use people's communication and socializing behaviour to keep functioning in the gobble web. This is how chat business have developed from forums to real time chat rooms and then to chat softwares.

Our seeing and hearing senses play a huge role in aiding the chat business. Presently, Microsoft Net Messsenger(MSN Messenger), Yahoo Messenger, I seek U(ICQ), i-chat, American online(AOL), Trillion, Paltalk and mIRC are the popular chat softwares. Among all of the other chat softwares MSN Messenger has the majority of users.

Why did MSN become popular?

mainly it is because Microsoft Windows has agreement between companies,especially with the one that manufacture laptops. Windows messenger is installed to almost all branded laptops as a standard software.
through people using MSN messenger, they tell and introduce it to their friends and family.
slowly MSN became more popular
it gained new users,user's friends, user's friends' friends and so on...

However, in order to grab on their users they managed to continously create new versions with new features and interfaces.

one of the other reason that they are ahead of others is that their video conference is very stable. This is an important feature especially when 2 persons are trying to communicate while they are in two different places or countries.

we constantly log in to MSN messenger in order to keep in touch with friends
because it is a convinient way to talk friends
it is a good way to spend our spare time
it is a convinient way to share our daily stories
as we are repeating this practice continuosly it becomes our habbit to use it over and over

Abstract & toolkit

Microsoft Network (MSN) messenger has been out in the internet world since 1999. It was invented after I seek you (ICQ). The community system of messenger has changed and affected a lot of human behaviour in terms of life style. Some people would spend long hours on the internet for not much of a reason. Some may even sit in front of the computer waiting for their friends to go online or find someone to chat online. How did it all happen?

chat online: talk to someone on the internet, no verbal exercise involve.

My investigation will explore since when, internet become part of our life? Since when, chat rooms exist? When did ICQ, MSN messenger, Yahoo messenger etc. and others like them come about in the internet world? How does MSN stay in competition with its rivals? What are the demands from the users and market?Why did MSN become important to us? How did it become our hobby? Is it a user friendly program?
